For members of our community who are interested in becoming a volunteer interviewer as part of the Lasting Words program.
Trained volunteer interviewers facilitate the expression of thoughts, feelings and memories for individuals with a life-limiting illness. These individuals 'Storytellers' talk about their memories, achievements, hopes, dreams and wishes. These are captured into a document for the person, who may choose to share with a friend or loved one. The resulting story can help with making meaning of a life as well as provide family and loved ones with a lasting momento.
Workshops use the theory of Dignity Therapy, a life review process that research has shown may increase a sense of dignity and alleviate end-of-life distress for people facing death.
Experienced facilitators lead volunteers through a series of interactive learning activities including group discussion, conducting interviews, recording and editing them.
Following the two initial workshops, there will be a half day follow up training session and half day coaching workshop, prior to the Official Launch of the Lasting Words program in October 2022.
